About Adam Sweatman

A brief summary of what you do

As Sales Director, I generally work on high detail, sizeable and high value projects. I particularly enjoy working through the intricacies of listed heritage restorations and the contrast of these requirements against the modern luxury newbuilds I’ve been privileged to work on.

The heritage restorations require such a detailed approach, which is why I find them so satisfying and rewarding. Generally a door-by-door site survey is undertaken where existing doors and/or frames are retained to assess what considerations need to be met with the ironmongery.

On the other side of the scale is the super prime residential newbuild developments where there is a real focus on seamless simplicity and technology solutions to ensure security whilst passing through the building. Developments I’ve worked on such as Regents Crescent really highlight this.

Industry experience & highlights:

I joined John Planck Ltd in August 2005 as a trainee architectural ironmonger, learning the ropes in the sales office and immediately enrolled on the GAI education programme (as is policy for all John Planck employees).

Further progression through the sales and estimating departments led me to the role of an area specification manager covering Kent and London. I was promoted to the role of Sales Director in 2016 overseeing the nationwide specification managers and supporting the managing director Tom in driving the business forward along with covering London and the Home counties generating new business.

Favourite project or client you’ve worked with and why

I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in some of the company’s most prestigious projects with Regent’s Crescent and Heckfield Place Hotel two of my personal favourites, both requiring bespoke hardware throughout. As fairly recently completed projects, we’re hoping these may add to our collection of awards!

During this time, my architectural ironmongery specifications and projects have received several industry awards:

  • Caring Wood House – 2nd Place, RIBA/GAI Specifications Awards 2019, RIBA House of the Year 2017, RIBA South East Award, RIBA National Award
  • Royal Opera House “Open Up” extension – 3rd Place, RIBA/GAI Specification Awards 2019, RIBA London Award 2019, RIBA National Award 2019
  • St Andrews House – Commended, RIBA/GAI Specification Awards 2019
  • Hop House – 3rd Place, RIBA/GAI Specification Awards 2017, Sunday Times British Homes Award

In addition two of my latest projects to complete; Heckfield Place and Regents Crescent, have just been shortlisted for this years’ GAI Specification Awards.

Your favourite product/finish?

My favourite finish would have to be Antique Brass – It’s a timeless finish that looks good in both a traditional and contemporary setting.
