The Nova building is a collection of 170 luxury apartments and penthouses across twelve floors overlooking Buckingham Palace Gardens.
The building is located on a 5.5 acre island site in the middle of one of London’s busiest one-way systems and is part of a full development which also included commercial offices and retail units.
We were approached at a very early stage to put together a full ironmongery specification, covering the apartments and penthouses along with the residents’ amenities such as a cinema, gym and meeting rooms. A lounge and roof garden at level 9 were also part of our scope, providing residents with open space and stunning views across the Capital.
A modern, minimalistic approach was adopted throughout with over 4,000 concealed hinges supplied to a variety of door types along with concealed limiting stays specified and installed in favour of conventional door stops and concealed door closers to all fire doors.
The finish chosen was a Polished Chrome throughout all front of house residential areas with the lever handle specified as an understated design from one of our Italian Manufacturer’s to compliment the contemporary design concepts.
Numerous pocket doors were supplied within the apartments which required careful consideration of the door weight along with a bespoke flush pull which we were commissioned to produce to be sufficient to operate doors in excess of 80kg.
There were many challenges that we had to overcome with this project, providing hinge solutions to doors which had intricate timber panelling and glass facings, along with the complex apartment entrance doors which received a mild steel sheet to the face, designed to fall away from the door in the event of a fire to avoid accelerating heat transfer and thus maintaining the fire integrity of the door.
