As a University Technical College, BTE Academy offers technically-oriented courses for students specialising in engineering and environmental technology and is a Centre of Excellence for teaching STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. It caters for about 440 14 to 19-year-olds from Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North Somerset.
The BTE Academy works with local employers and University of the West of England (UWE) to offer students a wide range of experiences including visits and workshops combined with varied learning methods and practical working.
The new college development includes workshop areas, classrooms, laboratories and indoor sports facilities as well as an outdoor sports area and parkland. The specification called for laminate faced FD30 and FD60 doorsets, many with acoustic ratings of 29dB and above. All mortice items were factory fitted reducing on site labour and therefore speeding up fitting time as well as ensuring a consistently high quality of mortice. The stainless steel ironmongery was both smart and durable whilst the Geze slide arm door closers ensured many years of trouble free operation in addition to being both fully compliant with accessibility guidelines and resistant to potential abuse.
The main contractor, Willmott Dixon has a reputation for their professional attitude and organised approach to procurement. The team was delighted with the doorsets and the finished project was testament to the contractor’s careful management.
