Battle of Britain Memorial

Architectural Hardware for Charitable Trust

“The Wing” is situated on the top of the White Cliffs in Kent, between Dover & Folkestone and was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in March 2015. The Wing is the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust’s building at the Capel-le-Ferne site of the National Memorial to the Few and includes The Scramble Experience. This award-winning building design was led by Nick Lawn from Gooden Allen Lawn Architects of Folkestone and its construction was successfully achieved with heavy reliance on donations from local trades to keep the costs down to an absolute minimum for the charity.

We were delighted to contribute the ironmongery ourselves to this fantastic project which is a memorial to our country’s heroes that gave up so much for our futures. The unique building design is intended to remind visitors of World War Two’s most Iconic aircraft, The Spitfire, complete with its famous uplift.

The Wing’s Scramble Experience is a hands-on attraction that allows visitors to learn more about what it was like for those soldiers affectionately known as “Churchill’s Few” during the summer and Autumn of 1940. A central ‘cockpit’ area with an open balcony offers superb views across the Channel to France, from where the Luftwaffe would have appeared in 1940. A special piece of technology will allow visitors to look through binoculars at the view as it is today and then ‘see’ incoming German aircraft approaching.
